The hallmark of this religious movement was total renunciation part of the followers who adopted Sannyasa.

1. Abadhutashram based on sacrifice, simplicity, austerity, celibacy, nonviolence, truth, freedom from passions etc. for the good of mankind and the devotees.
2. They were tour one place to another place in naked foot without any vehicle to preach spiritual religious teaching and sanskar to common people.
3. Eyes are to be fixed on the ground while going from one place to another.
4. They were required to travel constantly for alms (to survive) not more than one meal from any house.
5. They took only sattwic pure simple one principal meal in the day times before sunset and after sunrise nothing in the night. They were taking meal only to survive not survive to take meal.
6. They should not order any kind of food to be specially cooked. No food is to be stored for tomorrow. They are taking food under the open sky.
7. They were not to stay more than one night in any village in any circumstances. Spending one night in one village only, like an “atithi” accepting food only once in one house.
8. And also they were stayed in separate place like Monastery, Tungi, Ashram, or School, Cattle-shed if not possible than beneath the open sky under the tree. No fixed residences are to be owned for residing on one place for consecutive days.

9. Mahima Gosain converted 92 persons as Balkaladhari Sannyasis and 80 persons as Kaupindhari Sannyasis according to activities and dedication of sannyasis. Later on followers were converted to sannyasis in large numbers by following their Guru and Guruvani.
10. Balkaladhari sannyasis were taking no clothes even in heavy rain or bitter cold / hot. Only they have been wearing the bark of tree (Kumbhipatta-Careya arborea Rexb.) to hide himself from vulgarity.
11. They have knowledge of Ashtadhyayee, Mahabhyasha, Veda, and Upanishads along with real education of philosophy of life. Most of them are well-versed about Sanskrit language.
12. They have no materialistic property, wife & son and they were far away of these three things. Even, Balkaladhari Sannyasis do not touch a single penny for their own uses.
13. All human beings are their mother, father, sister & brother according to their respective ages, but none of them are close blood related in the sense of a monk.
14. In Mahima Dharma the women are forbidden to join the sannyas group. But they can lead a detached life in their own family, if they have achieved austerity and sacrifice.
15. Mahima Swami- preacher, profounder of the Mahima cult, had taken eternal blissful samadhi and left for Mahasunya, Mahanityapura on Monday 10th lunar day of Falguna at 5:22 P.M. in 1876 A.D. at Joranda (Dhenkanal district of Odisha), the place noted as Dev Bhumi of Odisha or Guru Mahima Gadi.

16. Sanyasis as well as Pilgrims get together from various part of country in Joranda on full- moonday of Magha which falls in February of every year, to give obligation or to worship in the holy shrine of Mahima Swami where he had taken last breath (samadhi).
