Founder of Mahima
Dharma: Mahima Swami
Mahima Dharma is also known as Satya Sanatan Mahima Dharma or Alekh Mahima Dharma and Mahima Prabhu or Mahima Gosai or Alekha Gosai is the founder of this Dharma. He meditated in Himalayas from 1802 - 1826. He started publicity of Mahima Dharma from 1826 A.D.
Dhulia
Gosain:
Alekha Gosai appeared at Puri, Odisha in 1826
and lived for a long time, there as an Achari-Vaishnab and was known as Dhulia
Babaji from the fact of smearing his body with ashes. He opposed casteism,
racism, superstitions, discrimination and idol worship. He said that Param Purush
Param Brahma is formless, shapeless, omnipresent (present everywhere). In this
earth, there is only one Brahma (“Alekh Param Brahma”) and everyone must
worship “Shunya”. Everyone has equal rights to worship him.
A story is said that once upon a time, Mahima Mahaprabhu was
resting in an Ark cave in Puri. That time Adishaktimata came in
“Bhayankarstriroop” (in the form of a dangerous lady) and attacked him. That
time she realized that Mahim Prabhu is no one other than God himself so she
asked for forgiveness and left.
Jaladhari Gosain:
After some day he left for Khandagiri Mountain in Bhubaneshwar. 1826 – 1838 he meditated and consumed only water. Hence he was known as “Jaladhari Gosain”. Since lots of people started visiting and the place became very crowded, he left that place and moved to Kapilas Mountain in Dhenkanal.

Faldhari
Gosain:
He meditated in Kapilash Hill top for 24 years
from 1838 – 1862. For the first 12 years, he was known as “Faldhari Gosain” as
he consumed only fruits.
Kheerdhari
Gosain:
For the next 12 years, he consumed only milk
and at that time he was known as “Kheerdhari Gosain”.
Balkaladhari
Gosain:
Initially
after years of meditation, he wore Kaupini because peoples are wanted to meet
him for their benefit. Far before he has nothing to wore. After his meditation
when he reached in sadhan marga, he started wearing Balkal, the cover of tree as
was known as “Balkaladhari Gosai”.
One day while Mahima Prabhu was meditating, a Savar man saw a 7
faced snake on Prabhuji’s head and his body was covered with light. On seeing
this sight, the man became scared and fell on Prabhuji’s feet and asked whether
he was some magician or Bholenath himself. Prabhuji replied, “I am neither Shiv
nor any magician. I have come to give “Dharma Ekakshar Mantra” to this
world”.
During those days “Bhima Bhoi” was Mahima Prabhu’s great
follower. He was very famous and dedicated lots of Kirtans and Bhajans on
Prabhuji’s name.
Mahima Gosain-Who is He:
Mahima Gosai was more than 6 feet tall, broad shoulders and whitish
skinned. Image of Shankh (Shell) and Sudarshan Chakra was present on Prabhuji’s
shoulders. Shank was also present on his neck and Chandra (moon) could be seen
on Prabhuji’s third eye. Prabhuji had small teeth and gums like pomegranate,
pink lips and a smiling face. His voice was as sweet as the voice of Koyal bird
and there was seriousness in his voice. His eyes were like a lotus flower.
Miracles of Mahima
Gosain:
He had lots of Spiritual powers. He could see and hear events happening anywhere in the world. He was able to make 1000 bodies out of 1 soul. i.e., he could be present in various forms simultaneously in many places. He could fly in the air, he gave mountain of knowledge to mentally handicapped, eyes to the blind, give life to the dead. Hence, people called him “Sakshat Bhagwan Roop” i.e God.
He first built a “Tungi” (ashram) which was abounded
and remanded to Malabiharpur in Banki which is also considered the sacred place
among Mahima followers where “the truth of Alekh or Mahima” appears and have
been discriminated about the years 1866.
Mahima Swami had established sacred pyre of fire called “Ananta Dhuni” which was the only shelter for worshipers.
Shesa Yatra of Mahima
Gosain to Mahanityapura:
Before taking Mahanirvaan or Samadhi, he called all followers
and said that if anyone wants to become a sanyasi of Mahima Dharama, then he
must wear Kaupini before wearing Balkal. When Mahima Gosai went to Paramdham,
the sky became colorful and whole area had a fragrance of Sandalwood (Chandan).
He gave up his life in Dhenkanal, Joranda. He went to Paramdham in 1876, Falgun
Shukla Chaturthi.
Mahima Prabhu’s first Pupil (Prathama-Shishya) - Govind Baba and last Pupil (Sarvasesh-Shishya) - Nand Baba are the only ones who are allowed to wear Balkal.
