According to Baba Nityananda Dash (Pagal Baba), Secretary,
Bakaladhari Mahima Samaj, this year the sacred fire (jhada) began at 5.15 pm. The
Mahima Dharma Devotee, Sanyasis (saint) and Baba offers their eternal prayer
and hymn to Parambrahma, the Viswaniyanta (creator), Parameshwar in the great
holy evening at Joranda, Dhenkanal of Odisha on account of Magha Purnima by the
name of Prabhu-Mahima Swami.
Mahima Dharma Samaj observed 'Magha Purnima' on 13th
February, 2014 in memory of Mahima Gosain, founder of the cult. People, from all over India, flock to Joranda
to witness this grand fair. It is also known as the Mahima Mela and usually
falls on the Magha Purnima day, in the month of February. Joranda Mela is the
festival of the people belonging to Alekh/ Mahima dharma religion. This is the
largest festival of followers of Mahima cult. This year the mela will continue for three days. However,
exhibition and other cultural extravaganza will continue for seven days.
People who congregate here for the fair are taught how to
achieve nirvana. During Joranda Mela, the initiation of a Bairagi to an Apara
Sanyasi (superior caste of disciples in the Mahima sect) takes place.
Since 1874, this fair is being held every year, without any
gaps. The celebrations organized on this mela also include a havan/ yagan in
the 'Yajnan Kund'. It is said that in this kund, enough ghee is burned, so as
bring peace back to earth.
